He is the author of two volumes of short stories Cages and Other Stories and The Unusual Death of Julie Christie and Other Stories. His debut novel is entitled The Lonely. It won a Costa Book Award 2015 in the first novel category. He is also teacher of English literature and creative writing in Lancashire, England.
